How it all began

One ordinary evening changed everything.

We met at a graduation party—one of those evenings that felt ordinary, right up until it wasn’t. Amid the noise and celebration, something about her caught my attention, so I did the only thing that made sense: I asked for her number.

Later that night, I called to check on her, and again the following day. That first conversation told me everything I needed to know. She was grounded and thoughtful—the kind of person who thinks before she speaks. She was effortlessly eloquent, with a way of putting words together that made even a simple phone call feel worth paying attention to.

I kept in touch, call after call, until we finally decided to meet. I found her at a salon, sitting pretty and getting her nails done, completely unbothered by the world around her. When I introduced myself, she looked at me with genuine doubt—she could hardly believe I was the same voice she had been talking to all along.

I have always loved that moment. The person on the phone had felt real and personal enough that I had to prove myself in person. And somehow, I did.
